Rory McIlroy makes his return to the PGA Tour today at the 2026 Truist Championship. That’s bad news for the 71 others in the field, as the back-to-back Masters champion has won four times at Quail Hollow on top of three other top-five finishes.
The most recent of those victories came in 2024, the last time the tournament was played at its standard home in Charlotte. Sepp Straka will defend his 2025 title that was won in Philadelphia so Quail Hollow could prepare for the following week’s PGA Championship. Seven of the top 10 players in the World Golf Ranking and 23 of the top 30 will be on hand to make their final tune-ups for next week’s major.
That group includes Cameron Young, who won the Cadillac Championship last week and The Players Championship in March. Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose expect to be contenders, as well, with Wyndham Clark, Max Homa, Jason Day, Brian Harman, Rickie Fowler and Lucas Glover looking to add another title at Quail Hollow to their résumés.

Round 1 of the 2026 Truist Championship will broadcast nationally on Golf Channel starting at 2 p.m. Featured group and hole streaming from PGA Tour Live is available on the ESPN app (with a subscription to the Select plan) starting at 7:30 a.m.
