Father’s Day usually is nothing like Mother’s Day with regard to the sheer volume of restaurants with special meals, and most meals offered hereabouts are pretty dad-style informal.
Unless you’re talking about Mulberry Lane Cafe and its owner-cook Kelly Scianna.
Yes, one of north Melbourne’s favorite breakfast and lunch joints will have the usual specials throughout the week, including Sunday.
But Scianna went out of his way to make this Father’s Day weekend extraordinary by appealing to men of discernment and their friends and families. He will prepare a pop-up dinner that will start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at his restaurant. Reservations are required.
Courses will include dry-aged, honey-glazed, pistachio-dusted pork belly; bouillabaisse, complete with branzino and PEI mussels; roasted peach salad; pan-seared, handmade gnocchi; bone-in porterhouse pork chop with pommes purée and corn maque choux; and chocolate croissant bread pudding or beignets.
That Scianna cares also was evident last week, when he hosted a bake sale to benefit our friends at Junk Food Bakery, which was so badly affected by that fire a couple of weeks ago.
See him for dinner.
Mulberry Lane Café is located at 3440 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne. Call 321-426-7149 or visit facebook.com/mulberrylanecafe.
Pop on over and treat Dad
The following is an updated list of other restaurants that so far have responded to our requests for information about Father’s Day specials:
For sale: Ready to jump into the restaurant biz?
It’s time to play Guess the Restaurant again, Brevard owners having kept bizbuysell.com busy the last few weeks.
Listings include:
Two of those listings made some of us — and that means “some of us” because a restaurant owner, bothered by the prospect, called to see if they could be identified here — feel a little ill because we’re pretty certain we know which restaurants they represent.
Prospective owners, we beseech you to stick with the quality their owners have insisted upon through the years. If they’re what we think they are, we’re talking about culinary landmarks.
Please don’t let them slip.
