A tractor-trailer loaded with chickens overturned Aug. 27 in Madison County, leaving the driver with serious injuries and disrupting traffic on Beulah Church Road.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, the crash occurred around 2:05 p.m. near the intersection of Northeast Champion Loop.
The vehicle, driven by a 53-year-old man, was heading eastbound when it entered a left-hand curve at excessive speed, troopers said. The shift in the trailer’s load caused the truck to turn onto its right side, coming to rest partially in the roadway and on the shoulder.
The driver, whose name was not released, was wearing a seatbelt but was seriously injured in the crash. His 18-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and was likewise wearing a seatbelt. FHP does not release the names of those involved in traffic wrecks in its press releases.
The overturned truck drew a response from multiple agencies: The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Agriculture, and the Florida Highway Patrol’s Commercial Motor Vehicle division assisted with traffic control at the scene.
Authorities did not release details about the condition of the livestock or whether any citations were issued. The crash remains under investigation, the release said.
