The 2025 preseason kicked off in Brevard County on Friday, Aug. 15. Melbourne, Eau Gallie, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Titusville Viera, and Rockledge all won their preseason matchups.
Melbourne 49, Pine Ridge 0
The Melbourne Bulldogs were dominant in their preseason win over visiting Pine Ridge. The Bulldogs built a 42-0 lead over the visitors that led to a running clock in the second half.
The Bulldogs scored once more in the fourth quarter on a punt return to set the final score at 49-0. Melbourne will host Cocoa Beach in Week 1 on Aug. 22.
Eau Gallie 38, Plantation 25
The Commodores earned a preseason win at home over Plantation. Eau Gallie will travel to Vero Beach for Week 1.
Cocoa 16, Bradford 7
Cocoa got a win over Bradford in its home preseason matchup. The Tigers travel to Merritt Island for their first game of the season.
Titusville 47, Sebastain River 7
Titusville grabbed a strong road win in its preseason game at Sebastain River. The defense didn’t allow any points. Sebastian’s only touchdown came on a defensive fumble recovery. The Terriers will host Heritage in Week 1.
Viera 52, Palm Bay 20
Viera won its matchup against Palm Bay. The Pirates will travel north to face Astronaut in Week 1 while the Hawks host Rockledge.
Rockledge 37, Heritage 34
The Raiders earned a hard-fought win at home. Rockledge will travel to Viera for their first regular-season game Aug. 22. The Panthers go to Titusville for Week 1.
Cocoa Beach 31, Father Lopez 14
Cocoa Beach went on the road and left with a win over Father Lopez. The Minutemen will go to Melbourne for their opener.
Fort Pierce Central 36, Merritt Island 16
Merritt Island fell to Fort Pierce Central in its preseason game. The Mustangs open up their season with a home game against defending back-to-back-to-back state champion Cocoa.
Lake Brantley 35, MCC 20
MCC lost to Lake Brantley on the road. The Hustlers return to the field Aug. 22 for a home game against Somerset Academy-Canyons.
Astronaut 6, Seabreeze 6
Each team only accounted for two field goals apiece in a tie. The War Eagles host Palm Bay in Week 1.
St. Edward’s 20, Bayside 12 (SSAA opener)
While most teams across the state had preseason games that didn’t impact the standings, squads in the SSAA played games that counted.
St. Edward’s never trailed its home win against the Bears, putting up all 20 points in the first half. Bayside played much better in the second half, stifling St. Edward’s, but unable to come away with a tie or win.
Merritt Island Christian 38, Academy at the Lakes 14 (8v8)
Merritt Island Christian’s season opener against Academy at the Lake was called at halftime due to weather, but the Cougars still grabbed an official win in the game.
Thursday’s results
The 2025 high school football season in Brevard County started with Space Coast and Satellite picking up wins on Thursday, Aug. 14, in the first week of the SSAA season.
Space Coast won the SSAA Atlantic 1A championship last year while Satellite is entering its first year in the league.
Space Coast 59, Cedar Creek Chrisitan 0
Space Coast opened its season with a big shutout victory over Cedar Creek Chrisitan after taking control of the game early by scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter.
The Vipers scored their first touchdown with 9:51 left in the opening quarter when quarterback Zion Sandy connected with Junior Fider on a 34-yard touchdown pass. A little over a minute later with the Vipers on defense, Bradyn Cook intercepted a pass and ran the ball in for touchdown to give his team a 13-0 lead.
Sandy also threw touchdown passes to both Alex Banachoski and Kadyn Thomas to put two more touchdowns on the scoreboard for the Vipers in the quarter.
Space Coast added to its lead in the second quarter after Fider returned a punt for a touchdown early in the quarter. Cook ran in a touchdown and Drayton Gamradt caught a touchdown pass from Sandy to give the Vipers a 46-0 lead at halftime.
The Vipers scored twice in the second half with Kole Gamble scoring on an 88-yard run and Sandy running in a touchdown of his own. Space Coast (1-0) will host Gateway on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
Satellite 38, Oak Ridge 0
The Scorpions shut out Oak Ridge to win their first game as a member of the SSAA.
Satellite (1-0) will host Halifax Academy for its next game on Aug. 22.
