A Tallahassee man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on gun- and mail-related charges, prosecutors said Aug. 18.
Yasir Jaimon Za’Quis Hawkins, 20, was indicted for illegal possession of a machine gun, possession of a Postal Service key, and possession of stolen mail, said Jack Heekin, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Florida. Details were not immediately available.
Hawkins was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick in Tallahassee; a jury trial is scheduled for September before Chief U.S. District Judge Allen C. Winsor.
Hawkins faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment on the possession of a machine gun count; up to 10 years’ imprisonment on the possession of Postal Service key count; and up to five years’ imprisonment on the possession of stolen mail count, Heekin said.
This case was jointly investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, he added.
