Sean Ryan Pub in downtown Vero Beach permananetly closed Aug. 18, but will reopen as Vero Sports Bar and Grill on Aug. 29, according to its Facebook post.
“We are creating the ultimate destination to watch your favorite teams featuring 20+ crisp HD screens, an incredible draft lineup and a chef-driven menu that takes game-day food to the next level,” the post says.
The Irish pub with traditional Emerald Isle food and “a perfectly poured pint of Guinness” has been at 2019 14th Ave. since Sheila and David Schweitzer opened it in 2017.
The Vero Beach couple’s Pub 2019 LLC sold Sean Ryan Pub for $1.3 million on Oct. 29, 2025, to 14th Avenue Investors LLC of Fort Lauderdale. Laurie E. Moreira of Fort Lauderdale is listed as the authorized member and registered agent.
The Schweitzers gutted the 1932-era historic building — now located between Coffee House 1420 and the Vero Prime steakhouse — to create the most authentic Irish pub, Sheila said in a 2017 TCPalm article. Sheila, who was the third employee hired for the Chi-Chi’s Mexican restaurant chain, said she didn’t want “a corporate chain’s menu or décor.”
“The renovations took us 15 months to complete,” Sheila said at the time. “We gutted the entire place, down to the dirt, with only the ‘skin’ of the building remaining.”
The Schweitzers moved to Vero Beach from Kentucky in 2000, and named their bar after their adult children, Sean and Stephanie Ryan.
Before it was Sean Ryan Pub, the space was home to several dance clubs: Bombay Louie’s opened in 1995; Club Tonic was circa 2007; and Hearts of Vero was circa 2009, according to Yelp, MapQuest, TCPalm archives and published reports.
