St. John Paul II, Jupiter Christian advance in regional baseball

Senior right-hander Jack Wilhoit pitched a four-hitter and struck out eight to lead St. John Paul II Academy to a 4-0 victory over Florida Christian in a Region 4-2A quarterfinal game on April 25 in Boca Raton.

Wilhoit (7-1, 1.08 ERA), a North Florida commit, raised his county-leading strikeout total to 83.

Wilhoit and Florida Christian’s Alexi Ramirez were locked in a scoreless duel until the sixth inning, when the Eagles pushed across four runs. Ryan Galinis had the only RBI in the inning.

Second-seeded St. John Paul (24-3) will host third-seeded Chaminade-Madonna (17-11) in a best-of-three semifinal series on May 1 and 2. Seventh-seeded Florida Christian finished 13-14.

Region 4-1A

Jupiter Christian 11, St. Edward’s 7: The seventh-seeded Eagles (10-9) scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to stun the second-seeded Pirates (16-4) in a quarterfinal game in Vero Beach. 

Jupiter Christian trailed 4-0 after three innings and 7-3 after five innings. Kyle Valcich collected a home run, a double and four RBIs, and Kam Chesney had three hits and three RBIs.

The Eagles will face sixth-seeded Miami-Brito in a best-of-three semifinal series on May 1 and 2.

Miami-Brito 6, Atlantic Christian 0: The third-seeded Sharks (15-3) were shut out for only the second time this season, managing only two hits against the sixth-seeded Panthers (8-13) in a quarterfinal game in West Palm Beach.
