Even though a number of Florida football players didn’t hear their names called in the NFL draft, they could still latch on to teams as undrafted free agents.
It’s a tougher road, but not unprecedented for UDFAs to make NFL rosters out of training camp. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Drew Pearson began their Pro Football Hall of Fame careers as undrafted free agents.
Former Florida Gators special teams standout Ja’Markis Weston signed with the New York Jets as an UDFA last season and appeared in three games for the Jets as a special teamer, making two tackles. Weston then signed with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and was on their practice squad, but didn’t appear in a game for the Seahawks.
Most UDFAs attend rookie minicamps and spring OTAs, which provide a crucial opportunity to make an impression in front of coaches and personnel evaluators. From there, the hope is to get invited to fall camp and continue to make plays in NFL preseason games.
Here’s a rundown of former Florida players who signed as UDFAs or received training camp invites following the draft:
Florida football undrafted free agents
Green Bay Packers sign Florida football WR J Michael Sturdivant
The Green Bay Packers have signed Florida football wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant as an undrafted free agent, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
After transferring in from UCLA before the start of the 2025 season, the 6-foot-3, 207-pound Sturdivant started all 11 games at wide receiver for the Florida Gators and caught a team-high 3 TD passes. In Sturdivant’s lone season at UF, he caught 27 catches for 406 yards and 3 TDs., which included a 57-yard TD catch from quarterback DJ Lagway on Nov. 15, 2025, against Ole Miss.
“Being able to take the top of the defense, stretch the field at any given moment, that’s obviously something teams like about my game,” Sturdivant said at UF’s Pro Day las March.
Overall, in five seasons at California, UCLA and Florida, Sturdivant recorded 150 catches for 2,073 yards and 16 TDs.
Cleveland Browns sign Florida football DE Tyreak Sapp
The Cleveland Browns have signed former Florida football defensive end Tyreak Sapp as a UDFA, according to a report from ESPN.com’s Adam Shefter.
Sapp didn’t have the season he wanted as a senior in 2025, finishing with just 3.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack. But he still maintained a leadership presence in the locker room through the ups and downs of a 4-8 season.
As a junior in 2024, the 6-2, 273-pound Sapp posted his best season for UF with 13 tackles for loss, 7 sacks and two forced fumbles.
“I just wanted better for myself,” Sapp said at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. “Just wanted to do better. Obviously, I was working out, striving my way to the top, changed my process and just did things a whole lot different and just was more intentional.”
Philadelphia Eagles sign LS Rocco Underwood
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed long snapper Rocco Underwood as UDFA, according to Ryan Fowler of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The 6-3, 231-pound Underwood posted seven career tackles and two career fumble recoveries at UF and in 2024 won the Mannelly Award, given to college football’s best long snapper.
