Nearing playoffs: With goals in each half from Paige Kenton and Sophia Boman, Sporting Club Jacksonville advanced closer to automatic qualification for the Gainbridge Super League women’s soccer playoffs, defeating Brooklyn FC 2-0 on April 4 at Hodges Stadium.
Top combination: Ashlyn Puerta collected her seventh assist in the 18th minute, finding space against three defenders and sliding an accurate pass for Kenton to finish low past Brooklyn goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty.
Boman on target: Former Minnesota midfielder Boman scored for the second consecutive game for Sporting Jax, finishing off a 69th-minute rebound after crisp passing with Puerta, Andrea Fernandez and Kenton unlocked a break down the right side.
Quick free kicks: Former University of Georgia midfielder Abby Boyan made her Sporting Jax league debut, replacing Puerta for the final 20 minutes. … Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks earned her 10th shutout with support from the defensive trio of Grace Phillpotts, Georgia Brown and Maggie Illig. … Brooklyn (5-11-7) managed only two shots on target. … Sporting Jax (13-4-5), unbeaten in its last six, could clinch a top-four finish and a playoff berth as soon as April 6 depending on results elsewhere.
