AUGUSTA, Ga. — Not only does Shane Lowry have a knack for making holes-in-one — he now has five and is the only man to have two at the Masters — but he tends to record them at the most legendary venues.
Augusta National. TPC Sawgrass. Pebble Beach.
Lowry’s latest was on the 190-yard, par-3 sixth hole during the third round of the Masters. He used a 7-iron. He made a hole-in-one at the Masters 10 years ago on No. 16.

Lowry was asked after his latest ace what’s up with all these holes-in-one.
“Maybe I’m just good,” he said, a big smile coming across his face.
Lowry was smiling throughout his post-round press conference after carding a 4-under 68, which puts him at 9-under for the tournament and right back in the hunt for his first Masters championship. Lowry has one top 10, a T3 in 2022, in 10 Masters starts.
Lowry, like a lot of golfers in the field, took advantage of Rory McIlroy’s 73, and now is just two shots behind leaders McIlroy and Cameron Young (65). Lowry, looking for his second major to go along with the 2019 British Open, is solo in fourth place, one behind Sam Burns.
“I thought if Rory could shoot a 68 today he might run away with the tournament,” Lowry said about his friend and neighbor. Both live in Jupiter.
“But the thing is, it’s not easy to go out and go after it when you’re at the top of the leaderboard. When you’re down the field and you’re just having a go at it, it makes it a little bit easier and you can play a bit more freely.”
Shane Lowry records second hole-in-one in 13 days
Lowry was lurking at four back before the ace on the 190-yard hole. He used the same 7-iron he did for his last hole-in-one, which came just 13 days ago during the final round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open.
But going to 8-under and four out of the lead gave him energy.
“It gives you obviously a huge kind of boost,” he said. “All of a sudden you’re only four back. It’s getting real now.”
Lowry then got to 9-under, but it was not easy. He had to save par on the par-5, 15th after his second shot jumped into the water and he made a 6-foot putt to save par on No. 16.
Lowry’s hole-in-one history is becoming legendary. And even he cannot explain it.
“That’s wild, isn’t it?” he said “You don’t ever expect to make a hole-in-one. I just couldn’t believe it. You’re in the hunt at the Masters and you’re making hole-in-one, it’s pretty cool.”
Lowry said the walk down the sixth hole was “amazing” with the cheers from the fans around the sixth green and around the 16th green. It was the seventh ace at No. 6 at the Masters.
Lowry aced the 16th at the Masters in 2016, the 17th at The Players Championship (TPC Sawgrass) in 2022 and the 7th at Pebble Beach in 2024.
The iconic No. 12 at Augusta National has had three aces, the last in 1988 by Curtis Strange. Hole No. 4’s lone ace was by Jeff Sluman in 1992.
