Before taking on Royal Portrush at next week’s British Open, Rory McIlroy is making a push to win the Scottish Open.
The Northern Ireland native shot 4 under par in Saturday’s third round to get into a tie with Chris Gotterup atop the leaderboard heading into the final day. McIlroy won The Players Championship and his first Masters but struggled mightily in the PGA Championship and U.S. Open, but he did tie for sixth at the Travelers Championship, his last tournament before the Scottish Open.
The leader after two rounds, Gotterup is still in position to win his second PGA Tour event. Wyndham Clark had an impressive moving day to pull into a tie for third with Matt Fitzpatrick, Jake Knapp and European Tour player Marco Penge two strokes back. Ludvig Åberg, Sepp Straka and Harris English are among the others within shouting distance heading into the final round.
