Royal Palm Beach hires 22-year-old Brody Gullo as new baseball coach

Brody Gullo says he learned from the best.

Now he’s preparing to be the youngest high school baseball coach — and possibly the youngest head coach in any sport — in Palm Beach County.

Gullo, 22, is the new coach at Royal Palm Beach High. His father is Tony Gullo, who led Palm Beach Central’s program for nine years before resigning in 2025.

Brody played for his dad for four seasons, anchoring the infield and batting in the middle of the lineup for most of that time. He graduated in 2022.

“I was kind of that coach on the field,” he said. “That sparked my interest (in coaching) at the time and I didn’t realize it.”

Gullo went on to Florida State, studying sports management with a goal of becoming a sports agent. He continued his playing career on FSU’s club team, which attracts former high school stars who can’t earn a spot at a high-level Division I program but aren’t ready to give up the game.

Last summer, he got his first taste of coaching, leading a 16U travel team affiliated with the Wellington Sports Academy. When he injured his elbow this season, he stayed with FSU’s club team as a coach.

Despite his limited experience, Gullo impressed Royal Palm Beach athletic director Eric Patterson enough to land the head coaching job. During his interview, he stressed the importance of academics.

“I’m not too far removed from the game, but also the dynamics of the classroom,” he said. “I discussed what my visions were, how I wanted to create a culture of a winning environment.”

The Wildcats haven’t had a winning season since 2017. They were 10-14 this season while playing in a tough Class 6A district that includes Martin County and Dwyer.

But Brody Gullo is ready for the challenge, with the help of his father, who says he’s happy to provide guidance but doesn’t want to overshadow his son.

“I would love to have him around the program as much as possible,” Brody said.

Jupiter Christian hires Forbes

Kyle Forbes, who won more than 400 games as head coach at Palm Beach State College, is the new coach at Jupiter Christian.

Forbes and PBSC parted ways this year amid rumors that the school could be dropping the baseball program. In 17 seasons, he led the Panthers to a state championship and three state runner-up finishes, and dozens of his players went on to Division I colleges or professional baseball.

Forbes, a graduate of Atlantic High School and FAU, also coached nine seasons at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He has won more than 700 games as a college coach.

“Can’t wait to get started!” he said in a social media post.

Rockies sign Aidan Meola

Former Palm Beach Gardens High star Aidan Meola, who played for Oklahoma State the past five years, has signed a free-agent contract with the Colorado Rockies.

Meola, the son of U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper Tony Meola, was an all-county third baseman in 2021, when Gardens lost to Parkland-Stoneman Douglas in the regional final. He battled injuries at Oklahoma State, including shoulder surgery that cost him most of the 2025 season, but finished with a career slash line of .316/.399/.583 as well as 32 home runs and 125 RBIs.

He was a second-team All-Big Eight selection this season, hitting .320 with 17 homers and 69 RBIs. Five of his teammates were taken in the recent MLB draft.
