Rookie Emeka Egbuka commends Bucs veteran for being a 'godsend'

Anytime a rookie comes into a veteran-led locker room like the Bucs, it can be overwhelming for some, and welcoming for others. It comes down to how the player handles it, and for Emeka Egbuka, coming from Ohio State, he was ready for what the Bucs had waiting for him.

To his benefit, the Bucs locker room, especially their wide receiver group, is led by Mike Evans and Chris Godwin Jr. The latter has been missing practice time as he recovers from a season-ending ankle injury in 2024, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t being impactful.

Egbuka and Godwin have been close to starting training camp, with the two being seen talking after reps and practice. Egbuka talked about his relationship with Godwin, saying, “Chris Godwin has been ‘an absolute godsend’…I can ask him any question, even if it’s just about life…We’re becoming better friends off the field…I don’t think I could’ve been drafted to a better team or situation.”

The rookie wide receiver has been the star of the Bucs’ training camp thus far through the first handful of days.

The social media team has gotten a lot of use out of Egbuka as wel,l with his acrobatic plays and catches. With Chris Godwin Jr. expected to miss some time to start the season, the early connection he has shown with Baker Mayfield, and the coaching he has gotten from the man he may replace temporarily, is proving valuable.
