Report: Jaguars trade for offensive lineman with Giants

Dealing with injuries along the offensive line, the Jacksonville Jaguars and GM James Gladstone have made a trade.

According to Evan Barnes of Newsday Sports, the Jaguars are acquiring guard Daniel Faalele in a deal with the New York Giants. In return, the Jaguars are sending a late 2027 draft pick to New York.

Why did the Jaguars trade for Daniel Faalele?

This move comes as the Jaguars navigate a number of injuries up front, including at right guard, where Patrick Mekari will be sidelined for the time being following back surgery.

The Jaguars have utilized different combinations in Mekari’s absence, including moving Ezra Cleveland from the left side of the line to the right. Jonah Monheim, Wyatt Milum, and Walker Little have all taken right guard snaps as well.

Faalele will presumably step in at that starting right guard position or, at a minimum, enhance the competition and provide the team with added flexibility as they search for the best configuration of five players.

Over his four NFL seasons, which were played in Baltimore, Faalele has appeared in 66 games, made 35 starts, and played 2,252 right guard snaps. Last season, over 535 pass-blocking snaps, Faalele allowed 30 pressures and four sacks, per PFF.

Faalele signed a one-year deal this offseason to join the Giants. The Jaguars will inherit a $1.215 million base salary.
