Corazón De Café must reduce menu before reopening in Holland

Corazón De Café Holland has temporarily closed following a plan review with the Ottawa County Department of Public Health.

“Our closure is temporary and we absolutely plan to reopen,” Juana Vasquez, the business’ owner, told The Sentinel. “… During the review, we were informed that our menu was considered too large for our current kitchen setup, so we were asked to make significant changes and reduce the size.”

The café opened June 20 at 106 W. 16th St. in the former Supermarket Rosie, serving coffee, breakfast, lunch and desserts seven days a week. Vasquez, of California, opened the business with her husband after extensive renovations.

The business announced it would close until further notice Aug. 15.

Vasquez said some of the requirements have been challenging, particularly because the business had already been operating with the menu. The eatery, she added, has completed the requested changes and submitted the updated menu for review.

“At this point, we’re waiting for approval and hoping to hear back soon,” she told The Sentinel.

“This has definitely been a difficult situation for us as a small business, especially having to temporarily close our doors, but we’re doing everything we can to move through the process as quickly as possible.”

OCDPH’s Alison Clark confirmed receipt of the menu, but couldn’t say exactly how long the process will take. The department has 30 days to respond.

Despite the closure, customer support has been strong, according to Vasquez.

“We are very grateful for everyone who has reached out asking when we’re coming back,” she said. “Corazón de Café is not going away. We’re just working through this process, and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as we’re able to reopen.”
