First a tornado whirled over the Quaker Meetinghouse on South Magnolia Drive downing trees, puncturing a hole in the roof and damaging the playground and screened porch.
Then for almost two years, road construction blocked the flow of traffic in front of the Meetinghouse as the City widened the road and installed sidewalks and underground utilities.
But now it’s a new day! The road is open, repairs are completed and fruit trees have been planted to replace the fallen pines.
To celebrate, the Quakers invite the public to a Community Kids’ Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
Rodger Tripp (aka Safari Man), who has brought joy to thousands of children and elders in Tallahassee for more than 30 years, will be performing from 11 a.m. to noon.
Other activities include outdoor games, a scavenger hunt, a science activity, making kites and peace flags, and drinking a cool beverage from the lemonade stand. Children can also participate in a plant and tree identification hunt, which will include orange, grapefruit, peach, persimmon and fig trees and newly sprouted seeds in the community garden.
Come enjoy some time on the beautiful grounds. Snacks will be provided.
