Here’s what we know.

Publix Pay going away

Publix announced March 10 its Publix Pay in the store’s app will be discontinued starting March 19.

“Our pay-with-the-app feature will no longer be available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Publix said in an email release.

When will Publix Pay end?

Publix Pay will no longer be available in the app starting March 19.

Why is Publix doing away with Publix Pay?

“This change allows us to focus on enhancing and expanding other features that provide value and convenience for our customers,” according to Lindsey Willis, Publix relations manager, via email March 10.

“Customers can still pay using gift cards stored in their wallet, as well as other assistive technologies such as Apple Pay and Google Pay on a mobile device at the register.”

What if I have a gift card saved in the Publix app? Will I lose it?

Publix said customers with a gift card in the app won’t lose the card.

“If you have a gift card saved in the Publix app, you may still use it at checkout. Simply navigate to “Payment methods,” tap on the gift card, and scan the barcode that appears.”

Publix has more than one app

Publix has two apps available.

The Publix app lets you find the latest deals, including BOGO items, order subs for in-store pickup, create your shopping list and download digital coupons.

The Publix Delivery App, powered by Instacart, allows users to order groceries for curbside pickup at select locations.

Publix continues to open new, renovated grocery stores

The Tuesday, March 10, announcement came less than a week after a Publix opened a renovated store in Clearwater, and only two days before it plans to open a new store in St. Petersburg, on Thursday, March 12.
