A pair of tickets from Indiana and Kansas will split the $143 million Powerball jackpot after they matched all five numbers plus the Powerball on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, according to the Florida Lottery. In an odd twist, the drawing resulted in 89 secondary winners from 20 states earning prizes for $2 million and $1 million. None in Florida, however, according to Powerball’s site.
A day after the draw, Powerball officials said in a news release that “players who select their own Powerball numbers often create patterns when using playslips. In this case, the winning white ball numbers were in a singular column on many lottery playslips. As players are coming forward to claim their millions, we are learning that many used that very pattern as their special way of picking their winning numbers.”
Lucky numbers from fortune cookies? Line patterns from a lottery ticket? QuickPick option? Over the years, those methods may have led to million-dollar Powerball wins.
What does a Powerball ticket from the Florida Lottery look like (see below)? The USA TODAY Network-Florida tested out the winning numbers from the $143 million drawing on a Florida Lottery Powerball playslip.

According to the Florida Lottery, two tickets from Kansas and Indiana correctly matched all five numbers plus the Powerball on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to win $143 million. The cash option or one-time lump sum was an estimated $65.2 million at the time of the draw.

This Powerball streak started at $20 million Wednesday, April 8, 2026, after a player in Delaware matched all six numbers in the Monday, April 6, 2026, Powerball drawing to win a whopping $231 million. It resulted in two jackpot winners plus 89 other wins − a wild end to this Powerball streak.

The USA TODAY Network-Florida picked up Florida Lottery Powerball playslips to see if the “line pattern” that resulted in multiple ticket matches in the April 29, 2026, Powerball drawing would apply. In total, there were 91 winners, including two grand prize winners and 89 second-tier wins (see above).

Does Walmart sell lottery tickets? Where to buy lottery tickets in Florida
In Florida, most gas stations and some grocery stores sell lottery tickets. It’s harder to find a gas station that doesn’t sell Powerball, Mega Millions, Florida Lottery and scratch-off tickets than it is to find one that does.
Publix also sells lottery tickets and is known for selling many winning tickets. A lesser-known location is Walmart. Whether the Walmart location closest to you sells lottery tickets depends on your state and the store. Many Walmart locations in Florida have self-service lottery ticket vending machines or sell lottery tickets at the customer service desk.
