Round 2 of the Phoenix Open is upon us, and this is the last day the “People’s Open” will see fans with any semblance of control. Chris Gotterup will hope to keep his grip on TPC Scottsdale firm after an impressive opening round.
This year’s Sony Open champ got off to a great start in the Arizona desert, using an eagle to kick-start a 6-under run over the last six holes of his front nine en route to finishing Round 1 with an 8-under 63. He had a two-stroke lead over Matt Fitzpatrick with Nicolai Højgaard, Pierceson Coody, Max McGreevy and Daniel Berger among those also near the top of the leaderboard.
The field gets trimmed today, and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is among the stars looking up at the projected cut line at the start of the second round. Brooks Koepka bounced back to make the cut last week at his first PGA Tour event since 2022, but he once again struggled out of the gate at the Phoenix Open.
