Palm Beach's gas station is closed, here are some nearby alternatives

With Palm Beach’s only gas station closed for renovations until at least October, residents, workers and household staff on the island are having to cross the bridges to fuel up their vehicles.

The renovations — at one of Florida’s only gas stations to offer full-service pumping — will expand the Midtown building’s convenience store and see the exterior returned to the mid-century modern architectural style that defined it when the station opened in 1956.

The project for the former Sunoco station at 340 S. County Road is being undertaken by a group of residents led by Alex Griswold. In March 2025, a Delaware limited liability company named after the property’s address bought the property for $11.94 million. The company is managed by Armata Holdings Management Corp., a real estate investment company controlled by Griswold.

When it reopens at Palm Petrol, the station will again offer staff to pump fuel for customers along with its self-service pumps.

But with the station out of commission for the remainder of the summer, what are the closest locations to Palm Beach for fill-ups? Here’s a roundup of gas stations closest to the town’s three bridges as well as the Lake Worth Bridge. Don’t look for any of these stations to offer full-service pumping as a standard amenity, unless the staff is helping people with disabilities.

A plus? All of these stations are within five minutes of the closest bridge back to Palm Beach.

Near the Flagler Memorial Bridge

For those in Palm Beach near the Flagler Memorial Bridge, the closest gas station is the Marathon at the intersection of South Dixie Highway and 8th Street in West Palm Beach. That station at 900 N. Dixie Highway is less than a mile from the bridge’s entrance.

There’s also the Chevron at 1229 N. Dixie Highway at the intersection of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, a little over half a mile north of the bridge.

Near the Royal Park Bridge

For drivers closer to the Royal Palm Bridge, the closest location to fill their tanks is the Exxon on the northwest corner of Belvedere Road and North Dixie Highway, also in West Palm. That station at 2615 S. Dixie Highway is a mile-and-a-half south of Okeechobee Boulevard, the road that leads south to the Royal Park Bridge.

Drivers also can head a few blocks west on Belvedere Road to fill up at the BP gas station at 701 Belvedere Road, about 1.7 miles from from the Royal Palm Bridge.

Near the Southern Boulevard Bridge

For drivers close to the Southern Boulevard Bridge, the nearest location for gas is the 7-Eleven at 301 Southern Blvd., about three-tenths of a mile west of the bridge’s entrance.

Or drivers could travel just a little farther on Southern Boulevard to reach the Marathon station at 4000 S. Dixie Highway. The station is just west of the 7-Eleven but on the opposite side of the street.

Near the Lake Worth Bridge

For South End drivers close to the Lake Worth Bridge, their best best for getting gas is at the Chevron, just a seashell’s throw from the island. At 102 N. Federal Highway in Lake Worth Beach, the gas station is less than half a mile from the entrance to the bridge.

Residents could also head toward Orion Fuels at 401 Lake Ave., also in Lake Worth Beach. At the southeast corner of Dixie Highway’s intersection with Lake Avenue, the station is roughly a block south of the Chevron.
