Palm Beach appoints members to recreation and investment boards

Three members of Palm Beach’s recreation and investment advisory boards retained their seats, and two newcomers were appointed to regular seats during the most recent Town Council meeting.

Following presentations by the applicants at Town Hall, council members reappointed regular member Devon Roush to a three-year term on the Recreation Advisory Commission, and regular members Kathleen Anderson and Jacqueline de Sanctis to two-year terms on the Investment Advisory Committee.

The council on May 12 also appointed Geraldine Emmett, a Palm Beach real estate agent and former restaurant owner and marketing executive, to the recreation commission and Kenneth Weiss, a retired investment executive and former Navy officer, to the investment committee. Weiss will fill the remainder of the term formerly held by Lloyd McAdams, who died May 1. His term will expire in June 2027.

Roush and Emmett will serve until May 2029, and Anderson and de Sanctis will serve until May 2028.

The Recreation Advisory Commission is an advisory board that makes recommendations to the council on the town’s recreation programs and facilities.

The Investment Advisory Committee makes recommendations about the town’s investment policies and the investment of the town’s surplus funds. Members are appointed based on their previous fixed-income investment experience.

Following the vote, Council President Ted Cooney thanked the applicants and urged those not appointed to try again.

“We have the privilege of having a deep bench of applicants for our town boards with really important, relevant experience, so it’s been a good problem to have,” he told the applicants. “But it means we don’t always have seats for everybody right away. So keep coming back.”
