North Fort Myers woman dies at hospital after losing control of SUV, going down embankment

A 71-year-old North Fort Myers woman died after authorities say she lost control of her SUV and traveled down an embankment.

The wreck happened about 2:20 p.m. May 29 along Michael G. Rippe Parkway, near Briarwood Terrace, in Fort Myers, said a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Troopers said her SUV was traveling north on Michael G. Rippe Parkway, near Briarwood Terrace, when she traveled off the road to the right, down an embankment and struck a chain-link fenceand rocks.

Authorities said she suffered serious injuries and later died at a hospital.

At least 48 people have died stemming from Lee County crashes this year.
