Reed reflected on what the recognition means as his senior season comes to a close.

“I honestly didn’t expect it, but it’s great,” Reed said. “I couldn’t do it without my teammates. I’m glad I could win it my senior year. It’s awesome.”

Reed said much of his development came from playing with the same core group of teammates for years.

“I started playing in middle school, and I feel like that carried through high school,” Reed said. “My freshman year I was playing on varsity with most of the same guys, so having those teammates around helped me reach that.”

That continuity helped North Bay Haven take a step forward this season.

“Definitely staying in games with stronger teams than usual and winning districts for sure,” Reed said. “We also made it farther than we’ve ever made it, which is awesome. We’re really one of the stronger teams in the area now compared to before.”

Coach of the Year: Michael McCumbers

Michael McCumbers was named the Bay County Boys Soccer Coach of the Year after leading North Bay Haven to its best season in program history.

McCumbers in year one, guided the Buccaneers to a 15-4-1 record, including a Class 3A-1 district championship, a No. 1 seed in the FHSAA Class 3A playoffs and a Sweet 16 appearance.

The team’s attack was led by Hayden Kent, who scored 27 goals with three assists, and Chase Reed, who contributed 18 goals and 19 assists. North Bay Haven averaged 3.25 goals per game while conceding only 17 goals in 20 matches.

In goal, Peyton Austill recorded 10 clean sheets and made 103 saves.
