No. 10 FSU softball dominates Syracuse for series win

No. 10 Florida State softball put together another explosive offensive showing Saturday, cruising past Syracuse 13-1 in five innings at JoAnne Graf Field to clinch the ACC series.

The Seminoles (24-4, 2-0 ACC) backed a dominant outing from pitcher Ashtyn Danley with two home runs and a five-run second inning, holding the Orange (11-9, 0-2) to just two hits.

FSU struck early when Isa Torres launched a solo homer to right in the first inning. Jaysoni Beachum walked and later scored on a Kennedy Harp groundout, giving the Seminoles a quick 2-0 lead.

FSU blew the game open in the second. After Shelby McKenzie walked and singles from Marin Heller and Makenna Sturgis loaded the bases, Hayley Griggs delivered a sacrifice fly. Beachum worked a bases-loaded walk, Bella Ruggiero added another sac fly, and a throwing error on Harp’s grounder allowed Torres and Beachum to score for a 7-0 advantage.

McKenzie added her fourth home run of the season in the third inning.

The Seminoles piled on again in the fourth, starting with a Harp single and an Angelee Bueno hit-by-pitch. McKenzie and Heller ripped back-to-back doubles to push the lead to 11. Griggs singled home Heller, and Madi Frey drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the scoring at 13-0.

Syracuse broke up the shutout in the fifth on a solo home run from Kendall Gaunt. Danley was sharp through four innings, allowing one hit while striking out four.
