Azareye’h Thomas is officially a New York Jet.
The former FSU cornerback signed his rookie contract with them on Thursday and was assigned his rookie jersey number. Thomas will be wearing the No. 23, a new number after he wore No. 20 and No. 8 during his time with the Seminoles.
Thomas slipped into the third round of the 2025 NFL draft before the Jets took him with the 73rd overall pick. While the drop was unfortunate, it could work out perfectly for both him and the Jets. New head coach Aaron Glenn loves to run press-man coverage, and that is exactly what Thomas wants to do and is best at.
“It’s the reason that we drafted him because that’s one of the things that we look at highly when it comes to corners and how disruptive you are at the line of scrimmage. He was one of the better ones coming out this year,” Glenn said in a press conference on draft night.
Thomas was a productive player in all three of his seasons with the Seminoles, playing in 34 games and making 12 starts. He finished with 95 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and 15 pass breakups.
He is one of four former Seminoles on the Jets roster, joining defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi and linebacker Jermaine Johnson on the defensive side of the ball. Wide receiver Ontario Wilson is the only offensive player.
