A bakery and cafe inspired by Italy’s Amalfi Coast, being opened by a Canadian entrepreneur, will soon bring its international flavors to Sarasota.
Amalfi Bakehouse plans to open in August at 2139 Siesta Drive, according to a press release, placing it nearby other such internationally inspired spots as Baker & Wife, Andrea’s and Malmosto, Vino Vino, Rendez-Vous French Bakery and Rick’s French Bistro.
The new business is the brainchild of Tracy Calabrice, a Montreal resident who spent the last 18 years as a teache and is moving to the U.S. through the E-2 Treaty Investor visa for entrepreneurs making a substantial financial investment in an American business.
The idea for Amalfi Bakehouse came when Calabrice went to visit her mother in Englewood and the two were out enjoying a local bakery. Looking to escape the cold Canadian winters and start her own business, Calabrice decided to embark on her next life chapter.
“I’ve always loved teaching, but I felt like it was time to make a change and pursue another passion of mine,” Calabrice said in a statement. “I thought to myself — why not take my passion for baking and my love of the Amalfi Coast and create a business that will bring something distinctive to the area?”
What will Amalfi Bakehouse offer?
Amalfi Bakehouse will feature housemade cookies, cannoli, zeppole, affogato and a full espresso bar, among other items, with signature baked goods to be crafted fresh daily.
The space will undergo a full buildout, with plans to create a Mediterranean-style interior inspired by the Amalfi Coast, according to the press release. The design will incorporate mosaic tiles, vibrant colors and lemon accents meant to evoke the feeling of being on vacation in Italy.
Amalfi Bakehouse plans to be open six days a week, including the weekends. For more information and to follow Calabrice’s journey in opening the business, visit instagram.com/amalfi_bakehouse.
