Motorcyclist killed after speeding on Imperial Parkway, colliding with SUV, troopers say

Authorities are asking that witnesses of a fatal motorcycle crash contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

The wreck happened about 11:50 a.m. Sept. 17 along Imperial Parkway, near East Terry Street, in Bonita Springs, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Troopers said the motorcycle, driven by a 22-year-old Naples man, was traveling south on Imperial Parkway at high speed. As he approached East Terry Street, a Jeep, driven by an 86-year-old Fort Myers man, was making a left turn onto westbound East Terry Street.

According to authorities, the motorcycle struck the right side of the Jeep before catching fire.

The motorcyclist died on scene, making him one of at least 75 deaths stemming from Lee County crashes this year and the 19th motorcyclist to die on county roads.

Neither the Jeep driver nor his passenger, a 74-year-old Fort Myers woman, suffered injuries in the crash, troopers report.
