Manatee County celebrates local career milestones

Salutes to those men and women who have reached some impressive career milestones over the last few months with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Among those with 30 years are Detective Darryl Davis, Sergeant Chad Geary, Deputies Richard Evans, Leslie Jackson, Derrick Preston and Ben Sehorne.

Those with 25 years are Lieutenant Paula Newman, Deputies Coreen Benham, Rob Hoagland and Jason Smith, Detective Paul Escher and Senior Victim Advocate Maria Mireles.

Those with 20 years are Major Brian Schnering, Sergeants David O’Neal and Rob Hendrickson, Deputies Jason Carey, Rogelio Espindola, William McBride and Charles Wolfinger as well as Detectives Everth Loaisiga and John Proll.

Special Team recognition goes to Lieutenants Gerrod Huff (10) and Robert DeCarolis (10) on SWAT and Lieutenants Ricardo Alvarado (5) and John Hurd (5) on Emergency Services.

· Congrats to Lienna and Damon May, who named daughter Sophie’s baby sister Stella Eliana.

· Good luck to the Manatee School District’s new appointees, including Joshua Bennett, Executive Director for Elementary Schools; Mike Mullen, Principal, Lakewood Ranch High; Karen Erikzon, Principal, Oneco Elementary; Rudy Keezer, Principal, Daughtrey Elementary; and Nicole Meo, Interim Director, Exceptional Student Education.

· That’s 13 years of wedded bliss for Brenda and Colin Bruton.

· And Kaitlin Evans is 29. Again.

· Props to the Manatee High Sugar ‘Canes for their recent Universal Dance Association camp performance in Naples.

Among their accomplishments were a Superior Trophy, six UDA All-America awards, 36 Blue Ribbons and a second-place Home Routine, which the Sugar ‘Canes learned, cleaned and performed in three weeks after auditions.

“It’s not on a trophy, but we’re most proud of that,” said Director Kourtney Kalahar, who’s ably assisted by Chloe Krywko. “The teamwork, commitment and heart these girls showed all week are what truly make this team so special.”

The Sugar ‘Canes are Sydney Brower, Audrey Cummings, Kasha Drummond, Jordyn Falcone, Olive Imerman, Ava Macy, Delilah Parmalee, Sophie Potillo, Kendall Steffensen, Maci Steffensen and Emma Wyar along with new dancers Genevieve Bettle, Molly Bosner, Veronica Brinez, Olivia Guth, Anela Paynter and Priscilla Ruiz.

· Deb Lilly is 39. Again.

· Summer Smith-Pope, too.

· Big ups to State College of Florida softball infielder Bree Urban and outfielder A’Lana Martinez, who made All-America, leading SCF to the NJCAA DII World Series in South Carolina.

· And a bow to Manatee Memorial Hospital Spotlight Award winner Olga Clarke from Environmental Services.
