Luxury health club announces Sarasota opening

A popular national health club chain is making its Sarasota-area debut this fall.

Life Time Lakewood Ranch, an 86,000-square-foot athletic facility, is set to open in October at 5000 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. N., bringing a resort-style fitness club to one of Florida’s fastest-growing master-planned communities for the first time.

“The community has been calling out for a club of its own,” said Steve Datte, general manager for Life Time Lakewood Ranch.

The arrival fits squarely into the wellness space growth reshaping Sarasota-Manatee — from the Pause Studio and Jefferson Fit cluster taking shape at Aster & Links in downtown Sarasota to the broader surge of recovery studios, med spas and fitness concepts now opening across the region. Life Time represents the luxury end of that spectrum.

The club will feature 14 pickleball courts — three indoors — surrounded by lounges, a seating area and a bistro. A leisure pool with waterslides, two lap pools, a full cardio and strength training floor and a work lounge are also planned. Five boutique-style studios will offer reformer Pilates, barre, yoga and group fitness.

A full-service LifeSpa will provide skincare, body treatments, hair and nail services alongside chiropractic care. A Kids Academy will offer child care for ages 3 months to 11 years, with up to 2.5 hours of daily child care included in junior memberships.

Life Time is a publicly traded company operating approximately 180 clubs across the United States and three in Toronto. In Florida, the chain has been expanding steadily — with locations in Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, Coral Gables, Miami at The Falls.

Most recently, in summer 2024, Life Time revamped a former tennis club on Harbour Island in Tampa, making it the first on Florida’s west coast. Additional clubs were announced for Winter Park and Jacksonville in late 2024.

The Lakewood Ranch location will be its ninth in the state and first in the Sarasota-Manatee market. Company representatives have indicated further expansion in the Tampa-Sarasota corridor following the opening of the Harbour Island location in July 2024.

The Lakewood Ranch waitlist is now open. Membership capacity is limited, and pricing has not yet been released. However, the company says individual memberships are expected to range from about $140 to $400 per month.
