Letter to Palm Beach Daily News: Paper has too much real estate news

To the editor,

While I recognize that real estate is a significant driver of our local economy, its near-constant presence on the front page of the Palm Beach Daily News has become repetitive. It seems nearly every issue leads with a headline about the latest multi-million dollar transaction.

Frankly, it is of no relevance to the community to read a play-by-play of where “Mr. and Mrs. D. Pockets” previously lived or a detailed history of their former properties. Whether they purchased an apartment or a house for an exorbitant amount of dollars has no bearing on our daily lives. In fact, seeing these prices headlined every morning only serves to diminish the value of a dollar; it distorts the reality of what any normal person in the rest of the country would consider “medium” or even high-end real estate.

We are certainly happy that people want to live in our beautiful town and are willing to pay astronomical amounts to do so. However, we do not need to be subjected to the trivial details of every closing on a daily basis.

Our town, our county and the world at large are navigating significant challenges and developments. From municipal policy and infrastructure to regional news, there are many items that deserve front-page prominence over a real estate ledger. I would love to see the “Shiny Sheet” return to a more balanced editorial approach — one that prioritizes civic relevance and substantive reporting.
