The Miami Dolphins didn’t practice on Sunday, using the day to rest and recover after three sessions to end last week, but now, with a joint practice and a preseason battle looming with the Washington Commanders, Jeff Hafley’s team is back on the field by themselves on Monday.
Before Monday’s session, Hafley spoke to the media and addressed several players who are dealing with injuries to start Miami’s third week of training camp.
The coach revealed that cornerback JuJu Brents likely won’t practice this week, which is a huge loss, considering the Dolphins are also practicing without Darrell Baker Jr. and Storm Duck, who are both on PUP. This will give extra opportunities to guys like Marco Wilson, Alex Austin, Ethan Bonner, Ethan Robinson and A.J. Green III, who are trying to make the 53-man roster out of camp.
Kicker Zane Gonzalez is considered week-to-week with an undisclosed injury. This could cost him the job, as he’s been competing with Riley Patterson. If Patterson does well in Gonzalez’s absence, it could be a wrap.
Defensive end Clelin Ferrell, who the team signed last month, will miss multiple weeks with his injury. He had a real opportunity to earn a respectable role in the edge rotation. Now, that’s in jeopardy.
Hafley also revealed tight end Ben Sims, safety Dante Trader Jr. and wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. won’t practice this week, as they all recover from injuries.
