ESPN’s Seth Walder proposed a trade that would send a former Jacksonville Jaguars starter to Arizona. However, this is a deal that — in this moment — doesn’t make much sense.
Walder recently proposed five “big trades” that he believes should be made during training camp. One of which involved the Jaguars trading offensive tackle Walker Little — and a 2027 seventh-round pick — to the Cardinals for a 2027 sixth-round selection.
This certainly isn’t the first time this offseason that someone has suggested that the Jaguars trade Little. On paper, it does make sense.
When the offensive line is healthy, Little is a backup, but still accounts for a fairly hefty salary cap hit of $18.23 million. If Jacksonville were to trade Little, the team would save $11.94 million in needed salary cap space.
“Little had his best season in terms of pass block win rate in 2025 but was still only in the 27th percentile among tackles,” wrote Walder. “Dealing Little would be a cost-saving maneuver, so the compensation on any deal ought to be barely above — maybe even below! — zero.”
That said, Cole Van Lanen is still on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he works his way back from a knee injury. An exact timeline for his return is not known.
So in his absence, having Little on the roster has been quite valuable as he has filled the starting role opposite of Anton Harrison. While Walder believes that Chuma Edoga is “more than capable of functioning as the third tackle,” last season’s play doesn’t necessarily illustrate that.
Little certainly had his ups and downs last season, and if the Jaguars have to rely on him at any point this year, there’s no guarantee those inconsistencies go away. However, having him on the roster is far more valuable right now than the cap space and sixth-round pick that the Jaguars would get in return by trading him.
