With roster cuts underway as the Jacksonville Jaguars trim down to just 53 players, the team has reportedly released veteran quarterback John Wolford, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Wolford rejoined the Jaguars early this offseason after spending time on the practice squad in December. Before that, he was with Tampa Bay for the 2024 offseason and training camp under then-offensive coordinator Liam Coen.
Bringing Wolford back for this offseason provided the Jaguars with another quarterback on the roster, along with Nick Mullens, who was familiar with Coen’s scheme.
In three preseason games with Jacksonville, Wolford completed 9-of-17 passes for 118 yards.
The release of Wolford could mean one of two things. The first is that Seth Henigan will be the Jaguars’ third quarterback, whether that be on the 53-man roster or on the practice squad if the Jaguars roster only two quarterbacks.
The other option is that Wolford could be re-signed to the practice squad once roster cuts and then waiver claims take place.
Wolford went undrafted in 2018. He has 121 career dropbacks in the regular season.
