On Tuesday afternoon, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced a trio of roster moves.
The team has resigned a familiar face along the defensive line, bringing back defensive end Dawuane Smoot, while also adding wide receiver Trenton Irwin. The corresponding move to make room for the additions was waiving wide receiver David White Jr.
Smoot was a third-round pick by the Jaguars in the 2017 NFL draft and spent his first seven seasons in Jacksonville. Smoot joined the Buffalo Bills in 2024, playing in 11 games and totaling 386 defensive snaps.
During his seven seasons with the Jaguars, Smoot appeared in 99 games, made 17 starts, and recorded 23.5 sacks. His most productive season came in 2021 when he totaled 50 pressures, per PFF.
Irwin would go undrafted in 2019 but has spent the last six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. During that span, he’s appeared in 41 games and caught 46-of72 passes for 601 yards with five touchdowns.
In 2022, Irwin totaled 231 receiving yards and then had 316 yards in 2023, which was his most productive season. Irwin also brings some kick and punt return experience to the Jaguars as well.
White was signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie out of Western Carolina in 2024. He did not appear in any regular season games last year.
