Following offseason programs, there is one Jacksonville Jaguars player on offense who has stood out above the rest over the last several weeks of practices.
Each of ESPN’s NFL Nation reporters had to pick the “biggest surprise” player for the respective teams they cover. Michael DiRocco selected wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
DiRocco called Thomas Jr. the Jaguars’ “most impressive offensive player so far,” and added that the chemistry between him and Trevor Lawrence has grown, particularly on deep throws.
Following a down season in 2025 from Thomas Jr., what has led to this fast start in 2026?
“He said a changed mindset and an emphasis on not overlooking the little details in his preparation are the main reasons,” DiRocco wrote.
Thomas Jr. and Lawrence building that downfield rapport has been a major priority this offseason. After the Jaguars acquired Jakobi Meyers last season, Thomas Jr. saw more opportunities downfield.
Thomas Jr. providing that vertical element on a consistent basis will do wonders for the Jaguars’ offense. Not only will that lead to big plays, but the attention Thomas Jr. draws can create opportunities for others within the offense.
