Jacksonville University baseball season ends against North Alabama

Starting pitcher Justus Agosto and Gavin Oswald combined on a three-hit shutout for North Alabama, which ended Jacksonville University’s baseball season, 5-0, in the ASUN second round on May 20 at Melching Field in DeLand.

In a game delayed more than four hours by rain during the fifth inning, Oswald (8-3) finished off the ballgame with five innings of relief. Lions pitchers worked around seven walks.

North Alabama (29-26, 19-11) struck quickly with a three-run second against Dolphins starter Brendan Holland (4-5). Tyler LePage doubled to left to score Wes Walker, and Jackson Westmoreland followed with a single to center to bring home Will Millard and LePage.

The Lions tacked on two more in the fourth inning with Dylan Coleman’s sacrifice fly followed by a Nash Rippen double to score Westmoreland.

Conner Spelman collected two of the three hits for JU (30-25, 16-14), which left the bases loaded in the fourth inning and stranded two runners each in the seventh and ninth.
