Immokalee double homicide suspect denied bond

Lorenzo Ray Coleman Jr., accused of murdering two women in Immokalee July 10, appeared in a Collier County court for the first time Tuesday, July 14, before Judge Deborah Cunningham.

The afternoon hearing lasted less than 10 minutes. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm, child abuse and grand theft auto.

He is accused of shooting and killed two women, ages 25 and 29, in an Immokalee home on North Ninth Street around 8:30 a.m. Friday.

He then fled in a stolen white Dodge Challenger, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. Lee County Sheriff’s deputies eventually arrested Coleman in Lehigh Acres a few hours later.

He was booked into the Lee County Jail just before 10:30 p.m. that day, and was then extradited to the Collier County Jail Monday afternoon.

In court documents, the victims, both women, are identified as 25-year-old E.T. and 29-year-old R.R.

The family of the 25-year-old identified her as Eliza Torres.

Coleman’s next scheduled court appearance, an arraignment, is Aug. 10.

The prosecution asked the judge to maintain no bond for the two murder charges, which Cunningham agreed to. He was assigned a public defender for the hearing.

The prosecution also asked for a $25,000 bond for each of the two other charges.

Cunningham set the bond for the child abuse charge, which was filed because a child witnessed the murders, at $50,000. The bond for the grand theft auto charge was set at $25,000, per the prosecution’s request.

A no contact order and no weapons order was also put in place.

The hearing took place in a small courtroom with one row of seating, so Coleman appeared over video from a holding room. Coleman is in custody at the Collier County Jail.
