Welcome to the final chapter of the 2026 Florida high school baseball season as the state championship week has arrived.
The Treasure Coast is well represented with two area teams looking to create a dogpile on the sport’s biggest stage.
An improbable run has led Martin County to its first state appearance since 1968. The Tigers will take on Buchholz at 10 a.m. Friday, May 15 in a Class 6A semifinal from Hammond Stadium.
Earning the fifth seed in Region 2-6A after capturing the District 8-6A, Martin County recorded three straight upsets en route to Fort Myers. The Tigers first dispatched Viera in the regional quarterfinals before sweeping top-seeded Bloomingdale in the next round.
Martin County dropped the first game of the regional finals against Lake Minneola in walk-off fashion before rallying to win the series. The round was highlighted by a 16-10 Game 3 comeback victory as the Tigers scored 15 runs over the final two innings to erase a 9-1 gap in the sixth and a 10-9 deficit entering the seventh.
While Martin County will play the role of newcomer, its opponent is a veteran at this stage. The Bobcats, the top-seeded team in the state bracket, have finished as the state runner-up each of the last two seasons.
The winner between Martin County and Buchholz would face the winner of Land O’Lakes and St. Thomas Aquinas at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16.
