Florida A&M baseball has players amongst HBCU’s best at the third annual Swingman Classic this Friday, July 11.
Three Rattlers, Jay Campbell, Broedy Poppell, and Garrett Workman, are in Atlanta for the HBCU baseball showcase to lead off MLB All-Star Weekend.
The HBCU Swingman Classic’s first pitch will be at 7 p.m. at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. FAMU baseball fans can watch the Rattler trio on MLB Network and MLB.com.
FAMU baseball’s three Swingman Classic representatives are all from Tallahassee. Campbell played at Leon, Poppell is a Maclay grad, and Workman is from North Florida Christian.
The selectees were All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honorees this past season, with Campbell and Poppell making the first team and Workman being named the Freshman of the Year.
The 50 HBCU players selected for the Swingman Classic by a committee that includes Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. are divided into two teams, the American League and the National League.
Workman, a left-handed pitcher, is the lone Rattler on the American League Team. Campbell, a third baseman and right-handed pitcher, is on the National League team alongside Poppell, a catcher.
