The Hoffmanns have gobbled up another local company.
On July 8, the Hoffmann Family of Companies announced its acquisition of Naples Powder Coating.
With the acquisition, Collier County’s largest production powder coating operation will be integrated into Sunmaster of Naples, a local manufacturer of custom awnings, ornamental metal products and storm protection systems since 1969.
The Hoffmanns acquired Sunmaster in early 2018.
Naples Powder Coating serves residential and commercial customers. Its services include everything from restoring T-tops and rod holders to refinishing gates and patio furniture.
Led by husband-wife duo Audrey and Kyle Hogg, the company is known for its state-of-the-art Nordson equipment and for having Collier County’s largest curing oven.
The company also recently added in-house sandblasting for raw materials, as a complement to its powder coating services.
“Today’s news of our acquisition of Naples Powder Coating underscores our deep commitment to Naples and its business scene,” said David Hoffmann, the chairman and founder of the Hoffmann Family of Companies, in a statement. “There’s a real void in the market for a reliable, high-end powder coating partner, and pairing that capability with a brand of Sunmaster’s quality is exactly how we plan to fill it.”
Hoffmann Commercial Real Estate — part of the same family of companies — has also acquired the building that houses the powder coating operation. Naples Powder Coating occupies about one-third of the building — offering the opportunity to expand its powder coating capacity.
“Naples Powder Coating fills a gap we’ve long wanted to close. Bringing finishing under our umbrella means faster turnaround and tighter quality control for every piece of metal that leaves our shop — and for outside customers, too,” said John Wilkinson, Sunmaster’s CEO, in a statement. “Our plans include updating outdated equipment and reviewing all procedures to ensure they’re in line with our standard of quality.”
He continued: “As an end user for over 50 years, we know what our customers expect, and making that our No. 1 priority is exactly how we’ll approach this new addition to the Hoffmann portfolio.”
The Hoffmann portfolio now includes more than 30 local companies, including the Naples Princess.
In other local news, the family’s Midwest dairy business, Oberweis, is coming to Southwest Florida soon, with its first ice cream and dairy store expected to open in Cape Coral next year.
Headquartered in Naples, the Hoffmann Family of Companies consists of more than 200 brands, with more than 27,000 employees and 400 locations around the world.
In Southwest Florida, the family’s high-profile holdings include the ECHL’s Florida Everblades and their home venue, the Hertz Arena, and the Old Corkscrew Golf Club, which they’re in the midst of redeveloping into a members-only club with a redesigned “heathland-style course.”
