Will Tropical Storm Fernand become a hurricane?

Tropical Storm Fernand is expected to strengthen today, but fall short of becoming a hurricane.

It’s expected to move over cold water within the next 48 hours and become post-tropical.

Is Tropical Storm Fernand a threat to Florida or US?

No. Fernand is moving north-northeast over open waters in the central Atlantic.

Is there anything else in the tropics?

Yes. Invest 99L is in the eastern Caribbean. Chances of strengthening are low, near 0%.

There also are three other tropical waves in the Atlantic basin: two in the eastern Atlantic and another in the northwestern Caribbean.

What should you do if you live in Florida?

Remember, the busiest period of hurricane season will last through mid-October, with the peak arriving Sept. 10.
