FSU War Chant used to troll Alabama football's Kalen DeBoer during 'College GameDay'

Even though Florida State football is off this week, its impact resonated across the college football world on a Saturday morning.

During the Sept. 13 episode of ESPN’s “College GameDay,” the hosts were interviewing Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, who stood inside Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where his Crimson Tide were preparing to take on Wisconsin.

When Kirk Herbstreit began to ask DeBoer about his team recovering from its season-opening loss at FSU, the widely partisan Volunteer crowd began trolling the moment, echoing the famous FSU War Chant that could be clearly picked up by microphones.

DeBoer powered through his answer, though we imagine he’s had a sleepless night or two since FSU defeated Alabama, 31-17, on Aug. 30 at Doak Campbell Stadium. The game provided the Seminoles a national platform to begin to show that they are moving well beyond the disaster that was the 2024 season.

And if you needed any more proof that there’s no room for compassion in SEC rivalries, while the GameDay crew went through their game predictions segment near the end of the show, the crowd again broke out in the War Chant when Alabama-Wisconsin became the topic of discussion.

The Seminoles, ranked 12th in the latest coaches poll, are enjoying a bye week. They host Kent State from the Mid-American Conference on Sept. 20 before opening their ACC schedule on Sept. 26 at Virginia.
