FSU two-sport star named ACC Rookie of the Week in track

Micahi Danzy has been named the ACC Men’s Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. It is the second time he has been the Rookie of the Week, he was also the Men’s Track Athlete earlier in the season.

Danzy won the 400-meters at the East Coast Relays with a time of 45.0 seconds. It was a lifetime performance for him and the third-fastest time in program history. The Tallahassee native holds the eighth-fastest time in the country this season and the fastest among freshmen.”Great weekend for Micahi,” FSU director of track and field Matt Kane said in the release. “He was truly focused on his race plan and getting the win. What I liked was the way he ran. It sets him up for great things and faster times as we approach the postseason. I look forward to the next few weeks to see what he and Coach Argro can accomplish.”

The freshman, who is also a wide receiver on the football team, is the only competitor to be named the Men’s Outdoor Freshman of the Week multiple times this season. He also won the award on April 1 and was the Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on April 29.

Danzy will compete in the ACC Championship in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from May 15-17.
