Florida State softball is losing one of its most productive hitters as Tallahassee native Jaysoni Beachum announced Tuesday she will enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Beachum, a two-time All-ACC third baseman, shared the decision on her social media account.
“Thank you to FSU and Team 41, 42 and 43 for the opportunity,” Beachum wrote. “This was definitely not an easy decision, but it’s time to move on.”
The junior capped her third season with the Seminoles by leading the team with 69 RBIs and 69 hits while batting .406 and adding 10 home runs. A cornerstone of Florida State’s lineup since arriving on campus, Beachum made an immediate impact as a freshman, when she led the team in batting average (.417), hits (78), home runs (16), RBIs (66) and on-base percentage (.509).
She set the program’s freshman RBI record, posted the third-highest batting average in school history, and earned Freshman of the Year in ACC and nationally, All-American honors and recognition as a top-10 finalist for national player of the year.
Beachum’s departure leaves a significant gap in the Seminoles’ lineup and at third base. Coach Lonni Alameda will look to address that void in the offseason after FSU went 52-10 (21-3 in ACC) this year before being eliminated in the Tallahassee Regional in May.
Her exit marks a major change for the program, which will now seek to replace one of its most consistent and powerful hitters heading into next season.
