The No. 6 FSU softball team erased a six-run deficit to beat the Virginia Cavaliers 9-8 on Saturday at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Florida. The Seminoles improved to 45-6 overall and 9-1 in ACC play with the win.
Virginia was up 7-1 in the fifth inning before FSU started chipping away at the lead. Kennedy Harp got it started with a leadoff single before Hallie Wacaser doubled her home. She then scored on two wild pitches to make it a 7-3 game.
The Cavaliers got one run back in the fifth inning on a solo home run off of Jazzy Francik. The Florida State offense stayed hot though, with Jahni Kerr doubling home Jaysoni Beachum. FSU loaded the bases on a Virginia error before Wacaser drew a walk to make it an 8-5 game.
The Seminoles kept it going in the sixth inning as Isa Torres hit a leadoff double and scored when Virginia’s centerfielder made an error on a ball by Beachum, allowing her to get to third and put the tieing run at the plate. It was Virginia’s second error of the game.
Jahni Kerr drew a walk to put runners at the corners with no outs. Michaela Edenfield hit a sacrifice fly to score Beachum. Katie Dack flew out and put the pressure on Harp to take advantage. She did just that, hitting a two-run homer to make it a 9-8 game and give FSU its first lead of the game.
Francik retired the side in order in the seventh inning to close out the game and earn the win. She allowed one run in 3.1 innings, giving up two hits and recording one strikeout.
