The Florida State Seminoles had their second scrimmage of spring practice on Saturday, and head coach Mike Norvell provided an injury update afterwards. Unfortunately for FSU, he revealed that linebacker Mikai Gbayor will miss some time.
“Mikai Gbayor, he’s out for the rest of the spring. Nothing that will affect him going into the fall. We don’t anticipate,” Norvell said. “But he’s been a little limited, but he was impressive there. There in his first couple of weeks of spring ball.”
Gbayor transferred to FSU over the offseason after spending the 2025 season with the North Carolina Tar Heels. He played in 12 games for them, making 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, and a forced fumble. While it is never good to miss time, he is already familiar with Tony White’s system after playing for him at Nebraska.
The redshirt senior played for the Cornhuskers from 2022 to 2024, emerging as a key member of the rotation in 2023. He played in 24 games at Nebraska, recording 73 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.
He was considered a four-star transfer when he signed with the Seminoles ahead of the 2026 season. He is ranked as the No. 141 overall player and No. 9 linebacker in the transfer portal by 247Sports.
Gbayor is the second FSU linebacker who will miss the rest of spring. True freshman Izayia Williams is recovering from an ACL surgery and will return to action in the fall. The good news is that Norvell praised several other linebackers after the scrimmage.
