FSU football's Tommy Castellanos leaves Kent State game with apparent injury

Florida State starting quarterback Tommy Castellanos left the Seminoles’ game against Kent State with an apparent injury on Saturday in Doak Campbell Stadium.

Castellanos was rolled up on by several defenders after releasing the ball late in the second quarter. He quickly limped off the field and was replaced by freshman quarterback Kevin Sperry. The game was paused for a lightning delay shortly after, and he was able to walk into the locker room with a smaller limp.

According to the broadcast team, he was evaluated for a “lower-body injury” and will not return to the game. He returned to the sideline after the rest of the team and was able to jog without a noticeable limp.

He was 10 of 13 for 205 yards and one interception before leaving the game. He has also run seven times for 54 yards and two touchdowns. FSU is in control of the game, leading 35-7 with 2:39 left to play in the second quarter. The lightning delay will serve as halftime, the Seminoles announced.

Sperry is competing with Brock Glen to be FSU’s No. 2 quarterback. Sperry got his first action against East Texas A&M, completing 4 of his 5 passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns, adding 22 yards on the ground on three carries.
