“I didn’t believe it at first,” Jack Jones, The Dump’s owner, said in a news release. “It is very rewarding. I credit our success to small-town, Wisconsin values.”

The burger features a half-pound ground chuck patty topped with cheddar cheese, sautéed onions, whiskey brown sugar candied bacon and a bourbon glaze, and is served on a grilled kaiser roll.

Tennessee Whiskey earned the highest ranking from a secret panel of three judges who visited the contest’s Elite Eight restaurants.

The other seven were:

While the judges’ feedback was “incredibly positive for all the competitors,” they lauded the Tennessee Whiskey Burger for its flavor, how it was cooked perfectly and its “extremely impressive” presentation, as well as The Dump’s atmosphere and great service, Tammy Vaassen, the Wisconsin Beef Council’s executive director, said in the release.

The Dump, 105 W. Edgewater St., Cambria, had been nominated for the Best Burger Contest by its customers three years in a row. But now that the establishment has taken home the title, it will no longer be eligible to compete in the competition.
