The Miami Dolphins made sweeping changes across their organization in the last year, including during the 2025 season, when owner Stephen Ross fired general manager Chris Grier.
Now, just seven months after leaving Miami, Grier has found a new home, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the former Dolphins general manager is joining the Detroit Lions as a personnel executive.
Grier, 56, is the son of former NFL coach and executive Bobby Grier, who passed away in 2025. The younger Grier entered the NFL as an intern with the New England Patriots and joined the Dolphins as a scout in 2000.
Working his way up, Grier took over as general manager in 2016 and held the role for 10 seasons. During his tenure, Miami had five winning seasons and made the playoffs three times. However, he was often criticized for his draft selections.
