The centerpiece of Florida’s 2027 recruiting class, Maxwell Hiller, was included in ESPN’s cross-class rankings at No. 4. The outlet graded 25 of the most coveted high school prospects spanning the 2027 through 2030 cycles.
Hiller is the No. 2-rated player in the nation and the class’s No. 1 offensive lineman. At the next level, tackles are among the premier building blocks of powerhouse programs. Landing Hiller was a significant victory for first-year head coach Jon Sumrall as he endeavors to revitalize a floundering program that is coming off a 4-8 season.
“Jon Sumrall swung big by landing Hiller, who would become the highest-rated offensive line recruit to reach Gainesville in 12 years if he makes it to campus. Hiller is ready-made for college,” says ESPN’s Billy Tucker.
The validation of Hiller’s inclusion highlights how much the blue-chipper is regarded not just in his class but among the best prep players in the country, regardless of class. Securing the Coatesville, Pennsylvania, native was a game-changing addition for Phil Trautwein.
“He plays with the power of interior lineman and the smooth footwork to hold up on the edge, then finishes blocks with a nasty demeanor. Hiller’s anchor is strong to hold at the point of attack,” Tucker goes on to say.
Hiller will be expected to justify his five-star billing as the 6-foot-5-inch, 300-pound commit steps on campus as the face of this recruiting class.
“He also has the athleticism to climb to the second level and secure blocks out in space. At a highly sought-after position, Hiller’s physical attributes and playing style make him a no-doubt five-star,” Tucker concludes.
